INTRODUCTION

The Kekana Gardens Christmas drive 2017 was initiated and spearheaded by Jana Kotze from Epi-Use Africa and her team from the Pretoria office. This was meant to bring a holiday with a difference to the orphans at Botlhokwa Bja Ngwana Day Care Centre and Seikhokotlelo Old Age Home. With her team, Jana embarked on an internal fundraising campaign to cater for the different gifts that would be distributed to about 60 orphans and aged individuals together with their care givers.

DISTRIBUTION OF GIFTS

It was agreed that the date for distributing the gifts would be 11th December, just before the recipients go off for holidays. In attendance were the Epi-Use team, representatives from ERP, SANCO, Kwalata Lodge and of course, the beneficiaries themselves. For the orphans, gift hampers were bought to cater for the different age groups. Toys and treats were bought for the toddlers, coloring books and crayons for the pre-school group whilst ERP branded bags and stationery were bought for the primary school children. For the elderly, hampers with toiletries and linen were purchased for all who are housed at the old age home full time, whilst those who come through occasionally were provided with different treats to take home.

ENTERTAINMENT FOR THE DAY

At the orphan day care centre, the children there organized entertainment for all who were present. This included their own songs and dances, in expressing their gratitude towards receiving the gifts. Thanks to the generous intervention by Charl Pretorius from Kwalata Lodge, a local youth dance group provided entertainment to the aged for the afternoon. It was heartwarming watching some of the elderly joining in song and dance, as the youthful group kept them entertained. Prior to handing out of the gifts, Mr Pretorius was able to give a quick talk on ERP and all the developmental activities we are involved with in Kekana Gardens.

CONCLUSION AND VOTE OF THANKS

We would like to express our gratitude to Jana Kotze and her team at Epi-Use for making this day a success. Their actions towards bringing joy to the less privileged in Kekana Gardens lives to the GroupElephant.com mantra, Beyond Corporate Purpose. We are also grateful to Charl Pretorius and his team at Kwalata Lodge, SANCO members who joined in and ERP personnel both present and in absent, who tirelessly worked to make this day a great success.
